HB 195

enacted despite veto

Securing a Veto Override

Targeted advocacy to counter misinformation and advance landmark pharmacy access legislation

The Alaska Pharmacy Association partnered with Sachs Media to build support for legislation expanding pharmacists’ authority to treat routine conditions and improve access to care, particularly in Alaska’s rural and underserved communities. When misinformation threatened to derail the effort, Sachs Media developed a strategic advocacy campaign that kept lawmakers and the public focused on the legislation’s intended purpose and benefits.

The campaign combined targeted digital advertising, earned media, advocacy resources, and stakeholder outreach to reinforce fact-based messaging and generate support throughout the legislative process.

The campaign delivered more than 500,000 digital ad impressions and reached an average of 654,000 monthly readers through Alaska’s leading news outlets. After the governor vetoed the bill, the Alaska Legislature voted to override the veto, enacting House Bill 195 into law and expanding access to healthcare for Alaskans.
