On this week’s “Florida NewsMakers” program, Florida Agency for Health Care Administration Secretary Elizabeth Dudek sits down with Sachs Media Group’s Trimmel Gomes to discuss the state’s transition to Medicaid Managed Care.

The overhaul of Florida’s massive $22 billion Medicaid program is being touted as a simpler way for Floridians to go to a single provider for comprehensive care. “We’re getting rid of some fragmentation,” Secretary Dudek tells Gomes, describing the sometimes-confusing menu of coverage options for Floridians.  “Right now you can be fee-for-service, you can be in MediPass, you can be under a waiver, you can be under nursing home diversion, you can be under managed care, we’re going to go to one system so it won’t be fragmented that way.” The Medicaid system serves more than 3 million Floridians. Throughout the rest of the year and into 2014, low-income people will gradually move into the managed-care system despite concerns from skeptics who say the new system could lead to fraud. Dudek addresses those issues and more on “Florida NewsMakers.”
