SpongeBob in 4-D Debuts in North America

An all-new 4-D attraction film SpongeBob SquarePants 4-D – The Great Jelly Rescue debuts April 19 at the Nickelodeon Suites Resort, in Orlando, Fla.  Created in partnership with attraction powerhouse SimEx-Iwerks Entertainment, creative studio Super 78 and Nickelodeon, this new offering brings the undersea adventures of the smash hit animated series SpongeBob SquarePants to life through a brand-new 4-D attraction.  The previous and highly successful SpongeBob SquarePants 4-D was released over 10 years ago.

The seven-minute experience will incorporate dazzling in-theater and in-seat 4-D effects including bubbles and scents as well as a few special surprises that truly give an immersive look into the world of SpongeBob SquarePants.  The attraction delivers a series of alternate scenes each featuring their own unique 4-D effects.  These can be randomly played, allowing guests the opportunity to enjoy a slightly different experience each time they visit.

The 4-D Attraction joins SpongeBob with his friends in tow on a rollicking adventure when the villainous Plankton abducts all the Jellyfish with his pollution-belching contraption.  It is up to SpongeBob SquarePants to save the day, free the Jellyfish and destroy Plankton’s terrible machine.  See how SpongeBob’s big heart puts him oceans above the rest!

“SpongeBob fans will love this hilarious encounter that brings them face to face with swarms of Jellies, giant ghostly pirate ships and Plankton’s biggest threat to the Krusty Krab — a massive electric cannon,” said Brent Young, Director and Producer. The experience will blow the guests away. It’s 3-D at its best!”

“This unique 4-D experience shares a conservation message using a charming storyline,” said Mark Cornell, Senior Vice President, SimEx-Iwerks Attractions Development.  “Further, we have created pre-show elements that highlight the conservation message in the 4-D experience, all brought to life by linking these popular characters to their ocean counterparts.”

“We are excited to bring this new 4-D Experience to our clients around the world,” said Mike Frueh, Senior Vice President, SimEx-Iwerks, Licensing & Distribution. “The SpongeBob SquarePants brand is one of the best in the business and its wide demographic appeal, and action-packed scenes will make this a success in any venue.”

“SpongeBob SquarePants is an iconic and beloved property, with a global fan base,” said Gerald Raines, Vice President, Recreation Business Development, Nickelodeon Group. “This new experience, which integrates 3-D technology and dazzling in-theater effects, will engage fans all over the world with a positive and entertaining message.”

“The Nick Hotel is proud to be home to SpongeBob SquarePants and to be the location for the world premiere of his latest production,” said Louis Robbins, Managing Director, Nickelodeon Suites Resort. “Our guests, young and old, adore SpongeBob and we are thrilled to debut this film for them to enjoy during their stay.”

The 4-D experience will also premiere at SeaLife in Birmingham, UK (April 19), Parque De Atracciones Madrid (early April), the South Carolina Aquarium (May 20), Mystic Aquarium (May 26), and the Circus Circus Hotel in Las Vegas.

Since its launch in July 1999, SpongeBob SquarePants has emerged as a pop culture phenomenon.  The series has been the number-one animated program with kids 2-11 for more than 12 consecutive years, and over the past several years, it has averaged more than 100,000,000 total viewers every quarter across all Nickelodeon networks.  The character-driven toon chronicles the nautical and sometimes nonsensical adventures of SpongeBob, an incurably optimistic and earnest sea sponge, and his undersea friends. Whether searching for the ultimate spatula to perfect his burger flipping technique at the Krusty Krab, or just hanging out with his best friend Patrick (an amiable starfish), SpongeBob’s good intentions and overzealous approach to life usually create chaos in his underwater world.
