Tallahassee Firms Win Gracie Awards®

Sachs Media Group and Chucha Barber Productions are the first-ever Tallahassee winners of Gracie Awards® for 30-minute programs produced for the Florida Department of Children and Families and the Florida Department of State. Gracie Awards® are nationwide awards given by the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation to honor exemplary programming by women, for women and about women.

Sachs Media Group won Outstanding Interview Program or Feature for “Intimate Crimes: The Inside Story of Child Sexual Abuse,” a program created for the Florida Department of Children and Families and the Lauren’s Kids Foundation, which aired on television stations throughout Florida in 2013. Leading the project were senior producer Michelle Ubben, and associate producers Lauren Book and Jessica Clark, PMP.

Chucha Barber, President of Chucha Barber Productions and now Principal of Impact Visual Media, won Outstanding Producer – Documentary/Reality for Viva Florida 500, created in cooperation with Sachs Media Group, producer, for the Florida Department of State to document Florida’s 500-year history since Ponce de Leon’s arrival in Florida. Chucha Barber served as both the writer and producer for the project in collaboration with Ron Sachs and Lisa Garcia.

The awards will be presented at an industry luncheon at the Hilton New York in New York City on June 11.

The Gracie Awards® recognize exemplary programming created for women, by women and about women in all facets of electronic media, as well as individuals who have made contributions to the industry. The awards program also encourages the realistic and multifaceted portrayal of women in entertainment, news, features and other programs. Each year, the Gracie Awards® attract the best and brightest in radio, television, cable and new media.

“We are thrilled to recognize the outstanding work of our local, online, public and student Gracie award winners,” stated Kay Olin, AWMF Chair. “We look forward to honoring talented individuals and outstanding programming during the Gracie Awards Luncheon in New York.”

The Gracie Awards® are presented by the AWM Foundation, the philanthropic arm of AWM which supports educational programs, charitable activities, public service campaigns and scholarships to benefit the public and women in the media.
