Goodwill Industries-Big Bend Inc. today announced plans to open a new retail store and Career Training Center in Quincy, in partnership with the Gadsden County Chamber of Commerce.
The announcement today was made at the monthly “Go Gadsden” meeting by Fred Shelfer, CEO and President of Goodwill Industries-Big Bend Inc., and David Gardner, Executive Director of the Gadsden County Chamber of Commerce. The new 10,000-square-foot facility will offer consumers a better location and more retail space than Goodwill’s previous Quincy facility, while providing new employment services to Gadsden County residents.
“Goodwill continues to look for partnership opportunities that bring value to the community,” Shelfer said. “We are excited to bring this new store and career training center to Gadsden County to support residents in this community.”
The new facility, housing both the retail store and the Career Training Center, is expected to create more than 20 jobs for residents of the Gadsden County area. It will be located at 1503 W. Jefferson Street in Quincy.
“This partnership is an economic win for our community.” Gardner said. “The Career Training Center will provide jobs by offering services that will make a positive and lasting impact in the lives of our citizens.”
The Gadsden/Quincy Career Training Center will be open to all Gadsden County residents, with all services free to the public. The center will offer programs to help participants become financially stable and self-sufficient, and will offer individual counseling, a variety of education and job training opportunities, temporary work experience and job placement services.
Additionally, the center will offer a special program to assist ex-offenders. The re-entry assistance services will help ex-offenders:
- Get identification documentation
- Temporary work experience
- Vocational training
- Computer literacy
- Job placement and hiring services
- On the job training opportunities
