Florida NewsMakers: Ann Scott

On this week’s “Florida NewsMakers” program, Florida First Lady Ann Scott sits down with Sachs Media Group’s Michelle Ubben to discuss her gradual transition into the public spotlight following her husband’s election as Governor.

Since a sixth-grade speech made her unusually anxious, Scott had kept herself from speaking in public, but that all changed with Rick Scott’s successful bid for office. “I gradually eased into it, there was a little trepidation at first,” Scott said, “I think I’ve embraced it and learned to love my role as First Lady.”

Still, extended media interviews are rare for the First Lady — except for causes close to her heart, “I’ve always been passionate about reading,” Scott tells Ubben. “So I decided to focus on reading and literacy and foster children, bringing awareness to all the foster children we have available for adoption within the state, (as well as) healthy lifestyles for children and families and support of our military.” Scott also discusses creating a cookbook with historic Florida themes and a baby journal for parents of newborns. Scott also discusses why her husband deserves get a second term in office.
