In what very well may be a first in Central Florida, eight of the area’s biggest PR firms united as one team recently to participate in the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event – a fundraiser benefitting Harbor House of Central Florida.
Executives and employees of Consensus Communications, Edelman, Massey Communications, Patterson-Bach, Sachs Media Group, Salter Mitchell, TJM Communications and Uproar came together for the event as ORLANDO PRoud. The team of more than 20 walked with hundreds of other Central Florida leaders including Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer to raise awareness and funds for a serious subject – domestic violence awareness and prevention.
“Our firms compete regularly for business, but I thought it might be nice to show that we can channel those competitive juices into a cohesive force and make a positive impact on our community,” said Vicki Johnson, senior vice president of Sachs Media Group and ORLANDO PRoud team captain. “The ultimate goal is to raise awareness and there’s no better connected or more creative group in the area to share this message to, through and with than the PR industry. Hopefully this will blossom into more than just a one-time occurrence.”
ORLANDO PRoud raised more than $2,000 for Harbor House and won the award for best t-shirt design, thanks to the creative team at Salter-Mitchell.
